Dark-backed Wood Quail (Odontophorus melanonotus) is yet another species of bird that Angel Paz has connected with so that visitors can see what is usually very hard to even get a glimpse of.
This is a family of 8 – including 2 chicks, so at least in this reserve they thrive. In the rather small range in Ecuador and Colombia, they are under increased pressure due to human activity, such as hunting, and habitat loss. It’s currently listed as vulnerable.
