Stinking passionflower (Passiflora foetida)

Stinking passionflower (Passiflora foetida) is very similar to the species found in the Galapagos islands – Galápagos passion flower (Passiflora vesicaria galapagensis)

The resin is impossible for leaf eating insects to traverse, or at least so unpleasant the insect will turn back. This is an efficient pesticide, but when the flower has opened, it is free of such defenses, and can thus be devoured before it has been pollinated.

Native range is tropical and subtropical America.
