I stayed here two nights and I thought this must be the most beautiful of the Socotri beaches. How wrong I was!
This is one of countless beaches, one more beautiful than the other – all with unique features. Here a cave north of the beach caught my attention, and this photo was taken just below the entrance.
The strange looking trees are the endemic and famous bottle trees, or desert rose – Adenium obesum ssp. socotranum. Just like a bottle made by humans the trunk is a container of water for leaner times. Thus this tree can grow on bare rock.
I sat here for hours listening to the sounds of the birds, wind and leaves, and I could have stayed well into darkness. Unfortunately I did not think about bringing a torch when I left the camp in the morning – oh how time flies when you are in heaven!
