I was on my way to the very eastern tip of Socotra, and was looking so much forward to the beach – alas! Last year torrential rain washed away the road from the plateau to the beach, and I had to stop where the road starts its descent. Here I had the most incredible view, accompanied by one bird nervously watching my every move.
I wanted to photograph it, but every time I moved closer it flew further away – even with my big gun it was too far away! Eventually I managed to get this image, but it was still very far away.
This bird is endemic, so only the island of Socotra is home to this species. Kind of amazing to think how it ended up on this island and nowhere else.
