Dragon blood tree (Dracaena cinnabari) is Socotra’s most iconic plant and not found anywhere else in the world.
The densest populations of the dragon blood tree is found in the higher elevations of the Haghier (Hageher or Hajhir) mountains and the surrounding limestone plateaus.
They face challenges on several fronts. Change in climate resulting in unstable amount of mist and rain coupled with livestock grazing are perhaps the main issues. Healthy population of dragons consist of constant regeneration from seeds sprouting to younger trees raging from a few years to decades of age still not branching out.
It is endemic to Socotra.
