Haghier mountains, Socotra

Socotra is a geologially diverse island, with coastal plains and sand dunes, limestone plateau with deep caves and gorges and the granite Haghier mountains.

Here the clouds are moving in on the higher peak in the background, and before you know it you will stand in thick and cold fog, or even rain. The Haghier mountains are rainmakers that ensure enough water to support dense and lush vegetation and even forests. Without these mountains Socotra would have bee a barren desert island with no streams or springs.

Also called Hageher or Hajhir mountains.
