A truly spectacular bird with a popular name I have never understood.
This is an endangered species, and I encountered very few of them and treasured every encounter, as this is a truly amazing looking bird. The secretary bird is a formidable hunter, and the prey, be it insects or mammals stand little chance once it has its eyes on them.
The long feathers on top might seem absent until a gust of wind flushes them out as seen here.
