Even though Barleria aculeata has spiny leaves, the goats have no problem eating away at them, as seen in this individual. The fact that there is much more grasses than normal should have weaned them temporarily off secondary plant species, but alas there are cows here too, so perhaps they are the culprit?
This species seem to thrive on the limestone plateau of the northeast of Socotra, where there is plenty of mist and rain from the northeastern monsoon.
Elevation: 579 meters.
