Ficus vasta

This Ficus vasta is growing by the vertical cliffs of northeastern Socotra where it is supplied with more rain than in other parts of its range on Socotra. Yet the foliage is withering, a sign of less water at its disposal, which differs from this neighboring tree showing no sign of shedding leaves. It’s February, so the winter rains are over, and thus in a few weeks all the Ficus vastas here will shed their leaves and rest.

Native range is Northeast Tropical Africa to North Kenya, Arabian Peninsula.
